Of course there is Dr. Joel Fleishman from "Northern Exposure," who fits the
"alienated outsider" mold.  But he is depicted as Republican (although moderate
and compassionate), and he even boasts about supporting Senator D'Amato.   I've
always found it interesting that there are no Jewish characters on "ER" despite
its attempts to deal with issues of race and ethnicity--are they trying to work
against the Jewish doctor stereotype?
