Performance Studies
For this interdisciplinary appointment, the applicant should
bridge the departmental concentrations in film/television and
theatre, and should have knowledge and experience of avant-garde
production (ideally including film/video). The teaching areas
may include, for example, historical courses focusing on
twentieth-century drama's relationship to dance, film, and the
visual arts; on post-1960 multimedia productions incorporating
film, video and "live" performance; or critical courses on
avant-garde film and theatre. Duties include teaching two
classes per semester in areas related to performance studies,
advising students, and developing a creative contribution to the
department's public programs. Ph.D. or an equivalent recognition
of professional status required.
This tenure-track academic appointment begins in August 1999 and
will probably be at
the rank of assistant professor. The Ph.D. (or equivalent) is
required. This teaching
and research position requires a strong commitment to
undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment as well as
a vigorous program of research. The person hired will be
expected to establish a publication record and/or attain
nationally recognized artistic success. The University of Notre
Dame is a leading Catholic university distinguished by a
diversified faculty. The Department of Film, Television, and
Theatre has 8 full-time teaching faculty in film/television and
7 in theatre. It offers a major leading to the B.A. (More

include a historic theatre and a future performing arts center.
We are located 90 miles east of Chicago. Salary and benefits are
