Let me interrupt this diverting exchange to point out that Deleuze does
describe several genres in Cinema 2 that can emerge in any historical
period. The prime example is the "minority cinemas" he describes under
"Powers of the false," in which the time-image is invoked because minority
filmmakers (in the sense of D+G's Toward a Minor Literature) cannot work
uncritically within the regime of the movement-image. Another example
might be his "cinema of the body," which might describe both experimental
and narrative films from many periods.
