When we talk about unreliable narrative, we usually refer to narrators who
specifically address the audience.  Even more interesting, perhaps, are
those cases where the "narrative" itself, or the force of the narrative is
itself unreliable.  One very interesting example of this from a director I
have long believed is seriously underrated is the film THE OTHER.  So as
not to give away details to any of those who have not seen the film, I
will say no more specifically about how the narrative works.
 
There is also a brilliant French film called TWO ARE GUILTY, by Andre
Cayatte, which I wrote about once in FILM READER II, which is constructed
around a series of narratives and sutures, most of which are seriously
called into question in terms of reliability, but for which the issue of
reliability is absolutely the foregrounded focus of the film...
