Since _Nights of Cabiria_ is back in the theaters (in superb new prints), it seems right to ask, vis-a-vis this question, whether _Cabiria_ fits or not in Monti's definition. Perhaps Fellini has one foot in neorealism--and the other on a banana surrealism--I mean "peel." I wonder also what distinctive role religion plays in Italian neorealism, since it's not mentioned explicitly in Monti's (albeit brief) definition. Yours, Edward R.
