CALL FOR PAPERS A conference on: Technology and Film Aesthetics The University of Montana, Missoula September 17-20, 1998 The film studies committee of The University of Montana invites submissions for a conference on Technology and Film Aesthetics which will be held in conjunction with the Five Rivers Film Festival, September 17-20, 1998. The festival is a celebration of film technology and those who have mastered it. The festival will bring in filmmakers, cinematographers, and sound and lighting technicians. Films will be screened and discussed by the artists who made them. The associated conference will focus on the relationship between technology and its impact on film narrative and aesthetics. We are particularly interested in works devoted to film technology and its historical impact on the creation of a realist, modernist or postmodernist aesthetic, and how these different aesthetic norms influence the reception of films by viewers. Interested participants should send three copies of an abstract by May 30, 1998 to: Technology and Film Aesthetics Conference Liberal Studies Program University of Montana Missoula, MT 59812 For inquires contact Michel Valentin, [log in to unmask], ph. 406-243-2301, or Sean O'Brien, [log in to unmask], ph. 406-243-6140.
