Casablanca and GWTW are 1:1.33, and L of A is either 70mm or 'scope.  What they
have in common is that they all use the entire frame area, thus the boom mikes
are kept entirely out of shot.  Can you think of any "classics" designed to be
shown in 1:1.85? I'm sure you'd see boom mikes if you attempted to show them in
a taller ratio (Taxi Driver is the only example which springs immediately to
mind).
