Pardon me for cross-posting this to H-Film.

I'm writing about NIGHT AND FOG and I have 2 questions.

Can anyone think of any documentaries before NIGHT AND FOG (1955) that dealt
with history as a problem located in the present, e.g. as a problem of
memory? Other than perhaps Resnais' own 1950 film GUERNICA?

What does the name of Oshima's 1960 film NIGHT AND FOG IN JAPAN mean, and
where did it come from? I haven't seen the film.
