I am a freshman at American University in the School of Communications. Since I am fairly new to my major, I have only been exposed to basic Visual Media classes such as Photography, Understanding Mass Media and Visual Literacy. However, I plan work in the field of television and film as a producer or director. I am assigned a project for my College Writing class that requires research and resources to investigate my field of study and future profession. I would be very grateful if anyone could give me any advice or direction to any or all of the following questions that must be answered in the project. Ask them what they thing makes for a strong scholar in the area? Who are leaders in the field (discipline, profession)? What sort of knowledge would help to build a professional in their discipline? What sort of behavior is expected in the field? What jobs would a person enter if she achieved a high level of success in the field? What would a typical career path look like? What qualities could you expect to find if you were having a discussion with a number of professionals from "field X"? Are there certain conventions your AU contacts would describe in terms of use of language in professional literature? (i.e. Is the language very formal? full of specific terminology? or distinguished in another way? Thank you for any help you can possibly give.
