The international Seminar "New Media story Tellers" is an initiative of the
Institute Dragao do Mar de Arte e Industria Audiovisual do Ceara (Brasil)
and the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada), with the Sponsorship of the
State Secretariat of Culture of the State of Ceara
 
The event with be presided by PAULO LINHARES, Secretary of Culture of
Ceara. The Mediators will be: ORLANDO SENNA, Director of the Centro de
Estudos de Dramaturgia of the Institute Dragao do Mar de Arte e Industria
Audiovisual do Ceara and SARA DIAMOND, Director of Media and Visual Arts
Center from the Banff Centre for the Arts. The organization and
coordination of the event are under the responsibility of PATRICIA MARTIN
and ALFREDO CALVINO.
 
Goals:
*  to analyze together with Brazilian creators the content of interactive story
telling
*  to provide an overview of form: what makes an interactive story
different, how is it the same as traditional stories in fiction, film,
television, music
*  to provide an overview of varying distribution environments and their
implications:  the web, CD ROM's, games
*  to consider the value of a cross disciplinary approach to interactive
media
*  to consider the practical creative challenges of interactive media
*  to consider the basic tools needed for interactive media creation

Speaking on developing issues and artists' works
 
2)  DOUGLAS COOPER, Dysmedia
Canadian novelist and interactive web designer, Cooper is an internet
pioneer.  He is currently working on a ground breaking web site, The
Secret
as well as other complex on line narrative projects and develops web sites
for film festivals and other clients.
 
3)  JOSHUA PORTWAY
Multimedia director, games designer, programmer and installation artist;
works for Real World, U.K., developing their new media series, including
world music series.
 
4)   ISABEL HOFFMANN
Canada, interactive children's books developer, teaches interactive
writing
and computer skills, one of Canada's key entrepreneurs in the new media
field.
 
5)  ANDREA MARKS, Producer, East Coast Multimedia. IBM
Gaming industry as producer at GTI, now has moved on to work with IBM
developing their children's titles--an expert on games, children's
products, production process and markets. Also knowledgeable about dance
and
cultural product.
 
5)  MICHAEL NASH, INSCAPE
Focusing on story development.
Inscape is considered one of the most innovative interactive companies
currently publishing.  They produce a range of interactive big budget
pieces, from mysteries, literature on CD ROM and shoot 'em up  games.
 
6)  ANDREA DI CASTRO, Mexico
 Mexican Art Centre, Director of Multimedia
Knowledgeable about new media throughout Latin America, artists works.
Develops V.R. projects, CD ROMs and web titles as well as artists' works
at
the prestigious National Art Centre in Mexico City.
 
7)  MARTY KATZ, Canadian Exec. Producer of MSN
Former television executive producer of many award winning television
programs and series. Developing MSN titles in Canada in conjunction with
MSN International.
 
8)  JOHN SANDBORN
La Fong
They develop titles for the web and interactive t.v., especially using
humor and narrative.  Their background is music industry, cultural
product
t.v., and interactive movies. Now they develop for the web.
 
9)  KEITH KOCHO, Digital Renaissance, President and CEO
Leads one of Canada's key companies.  Software and interface designer for
the internet, and the web, developer of technology, educational titles and
interactive stories.
 
10)  APPLE, WENDY HAYES
Director, General Business and Consumer
Develops Apple's business initiatives with the entertainment and cultural
community.  Part of the Americas working group at Apple international.
