Has anyone read Wolcott's column in April 1997's Vanity Fair? In it he trashes all friends of Pauline Kael, excepting himself, suggesting that everyone but himself (presumably based on the fact that he didn't like Indiana Jones while Kael did) is incapable of having an opinion of their own if they know Kael. What a pool of drivel. He uses this national podium to thrash at local writers and reviewers who seem to be guilty of nothing more than having a longing for good films. Curious to know if anyone has read the piece. And if you did what do you think? See particularly, the section titled "Case Study No. 1: The Lost Flock" on page 128. ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message. Problems?
