Following this thread reminds me of the episode in the YOUNG ONES in which Neal's (Nigel Planer) parents come to tea. They turn out to be upper class and berate him for being a character in this disgraceful sitcom instead of something wholesome like GOOD NEIGBORS/THE GOOD LIFE . Vyvyan (Adrian Edmundson) launches into a diatribe against British sitcoms which ends something like "...they reduce all British people to the stereotype of lovable middle class eccentrics and I HATE THEM!!!" Rick and Neal' father then come to the defense of GN/TGL on the basis of the sweetness and consideral (to them) sex appeal of its female stare, Felicity Kendal. I think a really important question was raised earlier, namely why certain shows are brought over to the US and others are not. Why YES MINISTER and not STRUGGLE ( I' m not sure of that title, the one based on Red Ken)? Both deal with British politics. And if SEINFELD is a Britcom in Yank drag is THE THIN BLUE LINE BARNEY MILLER in Blighty? And by the way, HOGAN'S HEROES was definitely a product of the sixties. Some of us are old enough to remember watching the first episode. Julia Fleeman [log in to unmask] ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message.
