Cinema Production Manager Position Available The Department of Cinema at San Francisco State University is seeking applicants for a new non-tenured faculty position: Cinema Production Manager. Scope This is a full atime position. The person filing the post will be responsible for managing the Cinema Department production facilities and for coordinating various curricular production activities for faculty, staff and students. Duties The Cinema Production Manager will supervise and coordinate production activities, the scheduling of class and idividual use of Cinema Department facilities and equipment. In consultation with the Department Chair, faculty and staff, he/she will establish and maintain day to day operatonal procedures for department facilities and equipment. Duties of the Production Manager may iclude: 1) acting as Chair of the Department Producton Committee. 2) Working closely with staff and faculty to prepare recommendations for equipment purchase, facility improvement and capital outlay. 3) Preparing reports and future budget requests to support the production curriculum. 4) Establishing and monitor guidelines for safe operation of department facilities. 5) Providing orientation and initiate training for student and graduate assistants employed in Cinema facilities. 6) Supervising students employed in above capacities. 7) Coordinating facilities and equipment maintenance and repair with staff and Creative Arts Technical Services. 8) Assessing the need for and initiate acquisition of technical and procedural information, including text and video, for use in classes and Departmental Labs. Maintain a library of such information. Teaching The Cinema Production Manager will teach courses related to the duties listed above, as well as production courses such as CINE 310 Workshop in Production, CINE 315 Cinema Production: Technical Crew and CINE 519 Soundstage Workshop. Qualifications Cinema Production Manager must have exceptional communication and problem solving skills. He/she must have management experience working in a film or media production facility. His/her background should include practical experience supervising a sound stage, and equipment/facility scheduling. Experiece in facility planning, production budgeting, equipment specification is preferred: expertise with computer budgeting/scheduling applications is desired. Cinema Production Manager must have teaching experience in film or related media. An M.F.A. or evidence of equivalent experiece is preferred. The cinema Department The Cinema Department is comitted to a curriculum which reconizes cinema to be an independent, powerful and unique medium in the world. Cunema programs combine theory and practice; students are encouraged to engage in scholarship and to pursue production in all forms of cinematic expression. Degrees offered are a B.A. in Cinema, with possible emphasis in animation, an M.A. in Cinema studies, and an M.F.A in Cinema; a minor in Cinema is also possible.
