The American Film Institute (AFI) has launched a new Web site saluting Martin Scorsese as the 25th AFI Life Achievement Award recipient. The site is an interactive journey through Scorsese's life and remarkable career and is located at <www.afionline.org/Scorsese>. Online fans are now able to navigate the AFI Scorsese Web site, which includes a graphic timeline of Scorsese's extraordinary life and career, as well as film stills, quotes from the director and his colleagues, his filmography, script excerpts, and video & audio clips. The AFI Web site also features several items from the Martin Scorsese Collection housed at the AFI, including samples of Scorsese's storyboards, never-before-seen production photos & notes, and images of genuine movie props. In addition, a "Webcast" of the events surrounding the AFI tribute itself, hosted by Intel Corporation's <connectedpc.com> Web site, will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20. The February 20th Webcast will kick off with reports and images from the Beverly Hilton Hotel as celebrities and other luminaries from the worlds of film, television and business arrive at the ceremony. Also, visitors to the site will get a "backstage pass" to pre-tribute events, text and digital still image updates, and the post-ceremony party featuring a live, video stream of the festivities. The February 20 tribute will be hosted by Sharon Stone and will be attended by such stars as Robert DeNiro, Michelle Pfieffer, Jodie Foster, Joe Pesci, Winona Ryder, Rosanna Arquette, Spike Lee, Barbara Hershey, Griffin Dunne, Kris Kristofferson, James Woods and Paul Sorvino. The tribute will be broadcast later this Spring on CBS and later in the year in an extended format on cable's Arts & Entertainment Network. Scorsese was selected as the 25th Life Achievement Award by the AFI Board of Trustees this past October. The AFI Life Achievement Award is considered the most prestigious honor for a career in film, and Scorsese joins film luminaries such John Ford, Orson Welles, Bette Davis, Alfred Hitchcock, Frank Capra, John Huston, Lillian Gish, Gene Kelley, Billy Wilder, Jack Nicholson, Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood in receiving the honor. In 1995, AFI created the award-winning AFI OnLine on the Internet's World Wide Web to provide global access to AFI's rich resources in film, television and new media. Located at <www.afionline.org>, AFI OnLine provides an international authority source for all aspects of the moving image arts, a one-stop guide for anyone interested in this art form. One of the most valuable assets on the AFI Web site is CineMedia, the Internet's largest film and media directory with links to more than 10,000 sites worldwide. AFI made Internet history on January 22 when it launched AFI OnLine Cinema which, for the first time ever on the World Wide Web, began presenting a continuing program of classic Hollywood movies in their entirety and complete with sound. AFI OnLine Cinema kicked-off with the 1916 Charlie Chaplin classic, THE RINK, and will continue in March with Buster Keaton's 1921 film, THE BOAT. ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message.
