EVERYDAY WONDERS: THE CONFERENCE POPULAR CULTURE: PAST AND PRESENT 10th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 9-13 JUNE 1997 CARLTON CREST HOTEL BRISBANE *'Everyday Wonders" is an international multi-disciplinary conference, an integrated academic and performance based event which reaches out to the community. Each day will have a major theme but other themes will be incorporated into parallel sessions. The conference is about the culture of the everyday, as opposed to high culture which can often be somewhat remote from the public. The conference will combine keynote speakers, academic papers, talks from notable sporting and entertainment personalities, with lively performances from artists. *Conference themes are Everyday Wonders: - Bush, Beach, and Suburbia - Sport, Recreation and Leisure - Music, Performance and Circus - Electronic Media, Communication and the Arts - Literature, Print and Design *This conference investigates the many features of popular wonders in our everyday lives. *The American Popular Culture Association was established in the mid-1960's. It covers a wide constituency across the United States and draws in many thousands of members, It is the major international popular culture organization, with recent conferences in New Orleans, las Vegas, and Cambridge, contributing academic speakers to the Brisbane conference, with expertise in all branches of popular culture studies. These scholars will be drawn from the USA, Mexico, Europe, Asia, and New Zealand. Prominent speakers from the UK and across Australia have already agreed to participate. The organizers are expecting approximately 600 delegates with larger audiences for public performances.
