Announcement of Faculty Position in the Department of Communication Studies The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill POSITION Assistant Professor with specialization in Communication Technologies, beginning July 1, 1997. Appointment is tenure track. Preference will be given to candidates who can relate issues of communication technology to area(s) of departmental emphasis. Qualifications include the following: A Ph.D. (or completion during the 1997-1998 academic year) in telecommunications, media studies, communication, or related discipline is preferred. Candidates should have demonstrated a significant record of, or potential for, strong teaching, research, and service. Salary is competitive. RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in communication technology and in the candidates area of expertise, conducting research, supervising theses, and performing departmental, university, and public service. GENERAL INFORMATION The Department of Communication Studies has 25 full-time faculty positions with existing areas of emphasis in Media Studies, Performance Studies, Rhetorical Studies, and Interpersonal and Organizational Communication. Approximately 600 undergraduate and 40 graduate students major in the Department. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is located in one corner of the Research Triangle, and has an enrollment of approximately 24,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
