Dear Don, the new video disc system is DVD which either stands for Digital Versatile Disc (when they want to talk about the different possibilites and games the technology presents) or Digital Video Disc (when they're talking about movies), depending on the week. It can contain up to 120 minutes of digital image (the laserdisc's image is analog) and several to many tracks of audio. It is supposedly the equal to laserdisc, but I haven't seen the demonstrations. It's been coming out for months now, but the companies can't agree on the copying protection system, so it really won't be out until next year. It needs it's own machine, it will not record (even though the technology exists) and it's supposed to replace the laserdisc market (which has been slow the last year due to this perception) in a few years and home video later on. It's compared to ithe CD revolution, but does anyone buy a movie to watch on the way to work or out for a jog? We of course, are anxiously awaiting any new technology to exploit our titles. It's the really profitible part of the business. Dennis Doros Milestone Film & Video [log in to unmask] ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message.
