Dear Jessica,

You comments struck me as puzzling and worthy of a little discussion...

What is wrong with a legitimate PAL copy, besides the fact that the
quality is better than NTSC (and the equipment to play PAL tapes on is
not much more expensive than NTSC)?

And how can you as a distributor responsible, I assume, for looking
after the interests and rights of producers whose films you distribute,
not make a judgement about "bootleged" - illegal, pirated - copies of
important films? Are you saying that maybe its ok to pirate a tape of a
European film, unless Kino (or another American company?) is
distributing it?

There are plenty of companies in England and other countries (HMV, for
instance), who will sell legitimate copies of almost any film (including
those under discussion here)to anyone with a credit card.

IF someone wants the Dekalog, they can buy it (in a nice boxed set, for
about $20 or so per tape). Shouldn't you be recommending that people do
that, and respect the rights of the producer, the filmmakers (and their
estates), and the distributors (like Kino) who have legitamtely aquired
distribution rights to particular films, and invested in their
promotion, marketing, and distribution?
