It is difficult to say how much real influence film has on people and each person is probably affected to different degrees, however I find it particularly significant that the tobacco industry, which is a *very* powerful lobby, is restricted (in the U.S.) from using film to advertise their products. That obviously implies that the U.S. government believes that film can strongly influence some people, and I think that is particularly the case for those people who have few other frames of reference.
