First of all, I guess I need to address the person who said I "must be paranoid", and that I needed to look into my own heart for signs of racism. It's not that I am thin- skinned, I just think that when contributors are attacked personally (and this isn't the first or worst case of this I have noticed) it just doesn't contribute to a good environment for conversation. Secondly, in my original message, I said that SOME of the bad animals had African-American voices. I'm not sure that just because some of the good animals also had AA voices, and some of the bad ones were white that we should dismiss the matter. When I was in high school, I had a very good friend who was Ethiopian. I was quite surprised when one day, another member of our circle said that "Lily is ok, she's not like those other 'n-words' ". Sadly, I think that this attitude is frequently reflected in the larger society, and thus Hollywood movies. If the African-American looks, talks and dresses like us then they are alright. I've noticed alot of well-meaning white folks who might easily say "I couldn't be racist, some of my best friends are black" still seem to cross to the other side of the street when they see a black man approaching. All comments, both favorable and unfavorable, of the IDEAS expressed above welcome. :-) Simone Fary ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message.
