Last night I watched Selznick and Cukor's first attempt at "A Star is Born," "What Price Hollywood," from 1932. Slow motion is briefly used in the suicide sequence towards the end. I recommend this one, for the relative openness of it's pre-code plot, and for the interesting editing, not to mention it's mythmaking about Hollywood.
