The first-run theatre in Washington DC (I've forgotten the name) where I saw 2001 was as thick with smoke as a boy scout camp at sunset. Joints were passed freely through the aisles (I doubt that they were management furnished), and the collective "oh, wow" choruses, especially at the stargate sequence, would have been enough to make today's complainants about audience noise run from the theatre in horror. Of course, no one left and no one complained. Gene Walz University of Manitoba Winnipeg, Canada ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message. Problems?
