In his autobiography, Frank Capra describes the disastrous opening of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. It was premiered here in Washington DC at Constitution Hall. The room was filled with many Senators, Representatives and other elected officials who were not impressed with the story. Many left before it was over. I believe Capra was in the projection booth and even from there he could tell things were not going well.
