Linda Seger provides some rough stats in The Art of Adaptation which claim that while most films and telemovies may not be adaptations, most that win Oscars and Emmies are. At the Australian Film Television and Radio School we are seeking any source of reliable stats. which indicate how much of feature film production, or "successful" feature film productions are in fact adaptations. It would really be nice to break these stats down into whether the story originated from a play, novel, short story etc; whether there have been trends towards more or less adaptations over time; whether different film cultures tend to favour adaptations over original screenplays; and whether adaptations are more common among television movies and mini-miniseries as opposed to feature films; AND also to test Linda Seger's assertion that award givers (critics??, the public??) actually prefer adaptations. Any help would be appreciated. Neil Pollock AFTRS Library 61-2-805-6440 Fax: 61-2-805-6665 ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message. Problems?
