In Truffaut's interview book with Hitchcock, the scene where Melanie Daniels in trapped and attacked in an upstairs room near the end of the film is noted -- Hitchcock wanted a "silent" attack and had the sound engineers create a sound that was made up of just the fluttering of bird wings.
