When Halloween comes around I show a classic Mexican film titled Macario.
It is more in line with the spirit of celebration since this is the time
Mexicans refer to as Dia de los Muertos(Day of the Dead). The story comes
from folklore(Godfather Death) but the script was written by B. Traven,
most noted in film circles for Treasure of Sierra Madre.
It's not the blood and slash that we're used to from Hollywood
but has touches of Bunuelian surrealism. And yes, there is a god
afterall... Macario is one of a few Mexican films that is available on laser
disc.

As far as a source for Chinese(HK) films, laser discs are hard to
come by. In HK they sell for as much as $90/disc when you can find
someone willing to sell them. As far as video tapes are concerned try

They rate the technical quality, format, subtitle cutoff, etc. They also
produce a slick fan magazine that's interesting.
