David Mamet's _House of Games_ in effect employs an unreliable narrator. The viewer follows the action from the protagonist's point of view (without voice-over), but she is being conned through most of the film. Unless the viewer is more discerning than the protagonist, he or she is likely to interpret events in the same way that the protagonist does. There was also an article by William Van Wert in _FQ_ 43.4 (1990): 2-10 that suggested that the sequence in which Margaret Ford takes her revenge is actually a dream sequence, which I think is a bit far-fetched, but he does attempt to make that case. jane haspel [log in to unmask] ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message.
