I know this is old hat...but 4 Steps in the Clouds, the original novel has strong political undertones. The novel is said to have strong fasist leanings. Something that makes since the main framework of the story involves stong patriarchal family values revolving around the importance of legitement childbirth (and motherhood) and marriage. Arau doesn't seem to chance that part of it all to much however how he portrays colonial mexician culture is shocking since it's the gringo that is of a "lower" class. ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message.
