Also, on the the laser disc front- "Searching for Bobby Fisher" would be a
good film to use in studying the aesthetics of editing. The obvious cliche
surrounding the film is, " Somehow he manages to make chess look
interesting." And it's true. it's very much an editor's film. Steven Zaillian
was, in a prior incarnation, an editor and worked very closely with three
other editors on the film. Zaillian even hired a separate editor for the last
reel of the film (the last 20min) for which, alone,  he shot one hundred
thousand feet. This collaborative approach to film editing is surely great
material for in-class discussion.
