Carol ========================================================================== CALL FOR PAPERS (for a conference panel) PANEL TO BE PROPOSED: "Medieval-Media Culture" for The 1996 Society for Cinema Conference, "Visual Cultures in the Nineties" -- March 7-10 in Dallas, Texas. PAPER TOPICS FOR THE PANEL: "Medieval-Media Culture" can range from medievalistic cartoons, to the recent Robin Hood movies (Costner's, Fox's, Mel Brooks', ...), to gothic imagery (as in "Batman"), to even more remote representations. (For example, in a recent interview John Boorman stated, "All my films use the Arthurian legend as a template; it happens to a large extent unconsciously.") I'm looking for papers that explore medieval codes, themes, motifs, narratives, etc. in film and television: how does medieval culture tranfer (from medieval literature) into our modern culture (in this case, as reflected by film and television)? Media addressed should be from the 1990's, but certainly studies of earlier works will be considered. Abstracts should be sent to me (via e-mail or snail-mail) by September 10, 1995. Carol L.
