 Perhaps some relevant examples from Hong Kong Cinema should be included such
as Tsui Hark's PEKING OPERA BLUES (the subject of an interesting article in
the current FILM QUARTERLY) and Corey Yuen's FONG SAI YUK, - particularly in
regard to the relationship between the two mothers which extends far beyond
"crossdressing" interest. There is also a cultural interplay between both in
terms of the alignment of Mandarin and Conatonese cultures when the "doomladen"
future perfect year of 1997 approaches.
  Other examples - DRAGON INN (the Tsui Hark 1992 version), SWORDSMAN 2, and
Cynthia Khan's series IN THE LINE OF DUTY.
