THE NEW ESCOLA BRASILEIRA DE CINEMA E TELEVISAO
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Brazilian School of Cinema and Television is a project designed
within the institutional framework of the State University of Norte
Fluminense upon the model of the International Film and Television
School of San Antonio de los Ba
os (Cuba). Its primary goal is to provide
professional training to the new generation that will run the Brazilian
audiovisual industry after the year 2000.

Consonant with the zeitgeist of the new millennium, the school will
be installed at a XVII century Jesuitic college, presently under
restoration at 28 km off the city of Campos (state of Rio de Janeiro).
The building where long ago scholars used to unveil the mysteries
of theology, is now being transformed into a secular temple for the survey
of the state-of-the-art technologies and contemporary artistic
manifestations of moving pictures.

Conceived as a powerhouse of creative energy, the EBCTV has
many comparative advantages that make it an ideal framework for the
development of joint ventures with international partners. Based on the
nature and scale of the project, the school may participate bringing
in infrastructure, resources and/or expertise.

At this stage, the school is developing strategies to promote student
and teacher exchanges with other film schools. We are also considering
proposals to organize specific training projects and forums in partnership
with other related institutions, and further explore recent local trends
such
as eco-cultural tourism.

EBCTV welcomes proposals for collaborative projects. We are particularly
interested in the possibility of exchanging interdisciplinary residencies,
co-productions and co-organizing intensive workshops in which we could
share facilities, equipment, staff and offer to interested applicants the
advantages of a cross-cultural approach to video and television making.

The EBCTV will be under the direction of Orlando Senna, who besides
his credentials as scriptwriter, journalist and film director also has a
rich and extensive experience as faculty and General Director of the
school of San Antonio.

The similitudes between both centers do not end there: EBCTV will also
host a limited number of students, all with fullscholarships living in the
school campus (12 in each course for a total of 24 per year)
The curriculum will be divided in three areas:
Regular Course, Information and Recycling Workshops (open courses
for professionals) and the Permanent Seminary of Dramaturgy and
Communication (a forum for multidisciplinary interchange and research
guided by invited experts from all over the world)
