Stephen Brophy's comments about theatrical screenings in a certain geographic
area are interesting. However, valuable though theatrical showings are, the
point is that many of the examples cited are now available on video and
laserdisc which reach a wider audience than those fortunate enough to live
in urban areas with access to these works.
The new technological developments are now making available a wide amount
of work for those taking the time to search for them than was otherwise the
case. It is often better seeing a work on video and/or laserdisc (preferably
wide-screen from good master copies) than not to see them at all. This should
facilitate a better democratic form of access than before. Tony Williams,
