From: Tony Williams English SIUC Dear Friends, I'm working on a modern version of the copyright problems surrounding Jack London's suit against D.W. Griffith and Biograph over the 1908 film "Just Meat." The 1916 ruling disallowed London's suit saying that the Griffith film used a stock motif as opposed to an embellished one (i.e.) one unique and original. I wish to find out whether members can help with suggesting films and T.V, movies where the following have occurred. 1. A man threatens or abducts a woman's child (or baby). The woman despertately attempts to get the child back. 2. A situation where any baby is in danger. 3. The situation where any cat is murdered (e.g. STRAW DOGS, TWO EVIL EYES). 4. A doll is substituted for a baby (50s British movie in color about a kidnapping has this - but I've forgotten the title!). 5. A young woman falls in love with a charming young man who later turns out to be a dangerous person who threatens her or tries to harm her (SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY, a cable movie withMimi Rodgers called "Lady Killer"? 6. Which movie directors have used situations more than ONCE in their films? (e.g. Hitchcock uses the device of a man and woman handcuffed together in SABOTEUR and THE 39 STEPS; the siege in Hawk's RIO BRAVO, EL DORADO, RIO LOBO; Dario Argento's damsels in bloody distress etc). NOTE - NO SEQUELS OR REMAKES. All genres - musicals, love stories, sci-fi thrillers applicable. 7. Directors who have used the SAME THEME in their movies (not sequels or remakes). E.G. Hitchcock's REBECCA and SUSPICION have inexperienced young girl falling for sophisticated man whom she later believes to be a killer. In both films her suspicions are incorrect. 8. Films or TV movies involving poisoned milk. 9. Any film or TV movie using abortion as a central theme. 10. Movie thrillers in which a killer falls to his death from a high place from which eh has pursued his female victim. TV features also applicable. Thanking you all in advance, Tony Williams
