I don't think anything particularly sinister is going on here. It is
perfectly in character (as expressed in his scripts and films).
 
QT is exhibiting typical adolescent attitudes. A fascination with
"outrageous" acts, a pre-sexual attitude towards heterosexuality, a childish
delight in "shocking" people with his fascination with cartoon characters and
cartoon violence.
 
This is sort of like a pre-adolescent playing in the mud, delighted with the
disapproval from adults.
 
Now I realize that QT is not actually an adolescent nor are many of his
admirers. But, don't you think the parallels with the obsessions of male
adolescents is more than a coincidence?
