----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Keith A. Reinsdorf has posted a message in response to my reflections on "The Victors" (which appeared some time back). It is interesting what particular scenes will stick in our minds. I remember most clearly the scene in which the gruff sergeant, who has told the kid not to feed the puppy, shoots it out of the back of the deuce-and-a-half so it won't starve to death after the troops pull out. The twenty years since I've viewed the film have obviously altered my recollections, since the sergeant looks like Robert Mitchum in my mind's eye, but he's not on the cast list given on Cinemania. I do remember the Romy Schneider scenes, with her in effect prostituting herself with the GI to keep food on the table for her German family. And the final death struggle on the muddy planks between I believe an American and a Russian soldier both drunk. Any others? (If we can't see "The Victors" again, by damn we can recreate it! Actually, lacking one or two favorites could make one grateful for all the good films that are available. Glass 99% full or 1% empty?) Dan.
