While there may be some merits to My So Called Life (I wanted to like it, but never found myself all that interested), it seems that all of this was done before and so much better in the various Degrassi series (Kids of degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High, and Degrassi High). These shows had the same problem in portraying realistic parents, but created convincing portrayals of the kids/young adults.
