----------------------------Original message---------------------------- From: Tony Williams English SIUC This is a really interesting point concerning Honda's contribution to Kurosawa's films. Does it not parallel the work of Ching Siu Tung on the second unit of some John Woo films such as A BETTER TOMORROW 2? Also, note his collaboration with Tsui Hark whenever the latter works as a producer or director. Tung went on to direct most of the CHINESE GHOST STORY films in Hong Kong Cinema. I guess those of us having "guilty pleasures" about viewing Godzilla movies now have some justification. Since the topic has moved on to Far Eastern Cinema, does anyone know where a good video copy of King Hu's A TOUCH OF ZEN is available. Made in 1969(?) but released in England c. 1975, both this film and Hu have fallen into neglect due to the recent interest in the second wave of Hong Kong cinema. However, Hu belonged to the Taiwanese strand of the first wave. I think the above may start the ball rolling in view of recent comments concerning the wider field of film culture, perhaps?
