----------------------------Original message---------------------------- One interracial couple that might warrant consideration is the taxi driver and his blind fare in the Paris segment of Jim Jarmusch's "Night on Earth." These two are involved with each other for only a short time, but he is obviously interested in her from a variety of standpoints. The irony is that, after having been put down by the two African diplomats who mock him for being from Cote d'Ivoire (he leaves them stranded), he can't get any respect from the blind girl either. Is race an issue here? Always with Jarmusch, but in contexts which emphasize our common humanity and the ironies generated by racial (and other) stereotypes. The blind girl is navigating her way around the city quite well. The befuddled taxi driver crashes moments after letting her off. And so it goes.
