San Francisco State Univ. is seeking an Assistant Professor in cinema studies. It is a tenure track position. The person will have responsibilities teaching in both the graduate and undergraduate programs. Of particular interest to the cinema faculty is finding the candidate who can work at the Univ. to explore new opporyunities afforded by our recent move into a new production and research facility. The cinema studies area features a cinematheque-style theater and a Media Study Center which allows students and faculty to engage in individualized research, viewing and analysis of cinema on video and computer work stations Design and operation of the Center and expanded use of the Theater will be a focal point of plenning over the next few years. Applicants should have the requisite interest, energy and vision to help in the shaping and administration of programs and activities which involve these areas. The Univ. places primary emphasis on teaching. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in film studies: teaching experience at the college level in one or more of these areas: third world cinemas, issues of race/gender/ethnicity, film history, aspects of film theory/criticism. The position will be offered at Step 8, $35,870 maximum. Appointment is for Fall, 1995 and should made by May 1, 1995.
