Allen: Vaudeville and Film 1895-1915: A Study in Film Interaction (Ph.D. dissertation, University of Iowa, 1977) is obviously outside the time and locale range queried yet might be useful. It is available from Xerox University Microfilms, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48106, USA as either microfilm or hardcopy. In the United States vaudeville was moribund by the 'twenties and 'thirties although some movie theaters had brief vaudeville olios, lasting about a half hour or so, as "overtures" to the main attraction -- a feature film. Such presentations were largely in entertainment district first run theaters. Other theaters ran double features using other promotions, such as dish giveaways, to get people into the theater during the 'twenties and 'thirties. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Cal Pryluck, Radio-Television-Film, Temple University, Philadelphia <[log in to unmask]> <[log in to unmask]>
