I ask you: Is there any _real_ difference between Forrest Gump and say,
Navin R. Johnson of  THE JERK (except that maybe the jerk was a whole lot
funny and didn't have the awful tendency of repeating itself every five
minutes, that really annoyed me in GUMP, the voice over says one thing
and the dialoge in the action of the film says it all over again--did
they think they were being absurdist? Did they think they were being
Beckettian? Did they think at all?
 
P.s., I am very pleased with the filmmakers fearlessness when it comes to
the really BATHETIC! we need more films that aren't afraid of making
people cry...
