A question recently came my way about the academic organizations in film
and television studies.  It occurred to me that perhaps there were folks on
SCREEN-L who also might be interested in this information.
 
If others would like to contribute membership info on other groups that
touch on film/TV studies (e.g., Popular Culture Association), send it in
and I'll collate them into a file to put on SCREEN-L FILELIST.
 
The two primary film/TV scholarly organizations are the Society for Cinema
Studies and the University Film and Video Association.  Each publishes a
blind-refereed journal (CINEMA JOURNAL and JOURNAL OF FILM AND VIDEO,
respectively), holds an annual conference, awards grants/prizes for
scholarship, and publishes a newsletter-type thing with job announcements
and the like.
 
SCS is a bit more angled toward "theory" in a lit-crit sort of way and UFVA
is a bit more angled toward production, but the two are essentially quite
