A question recently came my way about the academic organizations in film and television studies. It occurred to me that perhaps there were folks on SCREEN-L who also might be interested in this information. If others would like to contribute membership info on other groups that touch on film/TV studies (e.g., Popular Culture Association), send it in and I'll collate them into a file to put on SCREEN-L FILELIST. The two primary film/TV scholarly organizations are the Society for Cinema Studies and the University Film and Video Association. Each publishes a blind-refereed journal (CINEMA JOURNAL and JOURNAL OF FILM AND VIDEO, respectively), holds an annual conference, awards grants/prizes for scholarship, and publishes a newsletter-type thing with job announcements and the like. SCS is a bit more angled toward "theory" in a lit-crit sort of way and UFVA is a bit more angled toward production, but the two are essentially quite similar.
