Is it my imagination, or is it a relatively new phenomenon to find baseball
movies (ones that aren't based on real players' lives anyway) using the
names of real teams?

To his list of movies I would add <Tigertown> a 1984 release starring Roy
Scheider in a thinly disguised fictional portrayal of an aging Al Kaline and
the 1968 Detroit Tigers' quest for the World Championship. Oddly enough it
was released the same year the real Detroit Tigers won the World Series, and
even had cameos of that team's players, coaches, etc.
