Bill Forsyth, who became an international hero with LOCAL HERO and
GREGORY'S GIRL, most recently surfaced with BEING HUMAN, a messy,
tendentious effort starring Robin Williams. I suppose we can lament yet
another cinematic talent seduced and traduced by Hollywood, yet Von
Sternberg, Lubitsch, Wilder, Hitchcock, Forman, and others provide some
evidence that a European director does not necessarily abandon artistry when
crossing the Atlantic.
