_Birth of a Nation_ is not the only racist statement of D.W.
Griffith.  In _Broken Blossoms_, ostensibly a film about the need for
tolerance, he revealed some pretty vile, but probably also culturally
pervasive, attitudes about Asians.  I still cringe when I remember the
character played by Lillian Gish refer to her savior as "Chinky."  I
suspect that those with more knowledge fo Griffith's work could
provide us with many more examples.
