By preference I would have a way to restrict this message to those
on the list in the NYC area interested in writing for TV. As there isn't a
way to do this, my apologies in advance to others on the list. Hopefully,
the subject header was sufficiently clear to help those who pick and choose
what they read here.

Glenn Benest, a produced TV screenwriter and a teacher for many
years at UCLA and AFI in Los Angeles, has recently moved to NYC (where his
wife is doing a medical residency). He has arranged to teach a class there
entitled "Writing the TV Movie of the Week" through The Writer's Voice
program at the 63rd Street West Side YMCA. Glenn is a friend, so I do have
a bias here, but I admire his work and knowledge of the industry. I have
also met several of his students (and perhaps others on the list have taken
one of his classes or workshops and can give us another opinion). The
students I met found the class valuable; many have gone on to have tv films
optioned and produced or gotten staff writing jobs on series.

The class begins June 21 and will be held Tuesday nights for 8
sessions thru August 9. I do not have info on costs, but this shouldn't be
as expensive as some earlier classes mentioned in previous discussions on
this list. Additional information can be obtained by calling the YMCA at
(212) 875-4124 or by contacting Glenn directly via email at
"[log in to unmask]".

The blurb written to describe the class reads:

"In today's marketplace the demand for television movies is at
all-time high. This workshop covers the essential aspects of writing for
this unique medium, including the 7-act structure, devising the
cliffhanger, and the nature of the character driven story. Weekly writing
assignments emphasize a step-by-step approach to creating plot, characters,
content, and style.Students will receive samples of treatments, learn about
getting the rights to a true story, and have an opportunity to bring scenes
to class for discussion. The instructor, Glenn M. Benest, is an
award-winning writer/producer who has written four produced television
movies and one feature film. He has just finished a
one hour pilot for ABC. He has taught for many years at UCLA's Writers
Program and at the American Film Institute."

Again, my apologies to those on the list to whom this info is not
valuable and to those who will construe it as an inappropriate ad (I have
read all the recent postings on that subject and decided that many on the
list do want to hear of this type of service, while understanding that some
do not). Knowing Glenn's abilities, I felt this announcement would be
valuable to some who subscribe to this list.
