Yes, Matt the socialist in Kingsleys character is there.
I can see it now, too.

But now that you say it, something else seems not to fit.

He apparently works for the mafia ("I helped a few family fathers
make a few phone calls from jail for free and they offered me a job")

Assuming that he is loyal to the mafia, what does he want to achieve
by making all people equal? Organized crime does not want to take over
the world to run it. They'd become a government if they did - although
a pretty totalitarian one. They only want to feed off social structures
like a parasite, which is exactly how it works. (sorry if I got
carried away)
Assuming that Cosmo (Kingsley's character's name, possible
meaning in there) is loyal only to himself and megalomaniac,
he would want to crush The System to make all people equal and
alleviate them from their locked social situation and hopelessness
(as he puts it in the dialogue in the CRAY computer room:
"so much money is being used to do bad things..." etc.)

Before your mail, I only saw the second reason for Cosmo's acting,
which, out of a well meant intention, developed into an evil obsession.

What about that?
take care
