Does David Letterman's show primarily appeal to "young people" or to 30 or 40 something baby boomers? Dave makes no secret of being middle aged (47 yrs) and often makes unexplained references to TV shows nobody under 30 could possibly remember (shows like ED SULLIVAN and GARRY MOORE which are not in reruns). Indeed, Dave gives the impression of not having watched much TV or listened to popular music since sometime in the 1970s. He often has trendy musical guests (Sonic Youth, Counting Crows, etc.) but does not seem to know who exactly they are. Dave's genius is in recognizing that baby boomers are no longer cool young kids and they need to be reassured that it's hip to be square. Compare his show to that pathetic relic SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, a show which has not changed (in spirit if not cast) since it came on in 1975 except that it's even more vulgar now. Why is SNL still on? Does anybody watch SNL? I can't tolerate it for more than ten minutes. Mary Kalfatovic
