> >For a great overlooked film, I nominate John Cassavette's _Minnie & Moskowitz_. >Moskowitz is an interesting character, a fully self-realized human being in >the uniform of a parking lot attendant. He had flow before Csikszentimahalyi >knew what the word meant. I was so fascinated that you invoked M.C.'s work that I will definitely look up the film. FLOW = the channel in which your level of skill matches your challenges (above a certain low level for both) in which people experience time/space/attention/control in highly enjoyable ways. Mike Csikszentmihalyi (you only missed one letter!) at UChicago started out looking at people like surgeons and dancer and chess players, but has done (and his grad students, inc. me)studies of all kinds of populations--high school students, anorexics, factory workers etc. All in search of ENJOYMENT of everyday life. It would be great to find cinematic representation of what I've always found a great concept (and my life's aspiration--to move BEYOND BOREDOM AND ANXIETY(1975)). As for my own suggestion to the list, I will have to think some more about that (and why). kal Kal Alston 236c Education--UIUC 1310 S. 6th Street Champaign, Il 61820 217-333-4382 [log in to unmask]
